Evelyn C. Green, 71, of Fayette, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Graveside memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette is in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Clara, daughter of Edward and Frances Ford, was born March 29, 1941, at Waucoma, Iowa. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Waucoma High School. In high school, Evelyn played basketball, was the valedictorian of her class and won the Iowa Bar Association award. On July 4, 1959, she was united in marriage with James S. Green at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in West Union. Evelyn worked as a secretary for the Farm Bureau and Upper Iowa University in Fayette. She was also a cook for the Sugar Bowl Café and a waitress for Kaiser’s and Triple J. She also played the organ at church and was active in the Fayette American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed time with her mother-in-law, gardening, grocery shopping, mowing her lawn, and many other activities. Some of her favorite pastimes included reading, Sudoko, crossword puzzles, and The Price Is Right.
She is survived by one son, James J. Green of McLouth, Kansas; four daughters, Lori Gage of Fairbank, Judith Green of Fayette, Jacobi Green of Oelwein, and Jessica Green of Postville; four grandsons, Jake Green, Zachary Kirby, Zane Kirby, and Austin Perry; six granddaughters, Brianna Green, Shana Green, Telisha Green, Tamra Green, Shelby Schnor, and Abby Green; and two great grandsons, Xavier Green and Gavin Green.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, James, who died January 17, 2005; her parents; and her siblings, Elsie, Ethel, Ervin, Elmer, and Edgar.
